Sangam

New home!

After a month of trekking around India with Katie, I've finally arrived and started to get settled in my new home, Sangam. Since I arrived before the other girls I'll be working with, I was at a bit of a loose end as to what I was supposed to be doing, so I just tagged along with the other participants.

For a heads up to those who don't get what I'm doing here for the next 6 months, I'm working at a Girl Guide World Centre helping to run programs and seminars for people who come to visit. This past week there was a seminar on advocacy and the participants were from all over (Egypt, Mexico, Faroe Islands even). In future however, I've been told that most people who come are from the UK.

The centre is pretty laid back so far, or at least it seems that way to me given the craziness of my past month. I think once I start work it will get busier. At least I hope so.

Pune, the city where I am, seems like its just my style, or at least thus far. It still has the whole crazy India feel but because of the number of IT companies and global firms with a presence here, its quite modern. Which translates to good restaurants, bars and shopping. Good by Indian standards at least.

At the moment, I am most looking forward to starting work, exploring Pune, and buying saris and salwar kameezes. I am going to end up with a ton of sparkly bright indian outfits which I will never wear at home. Except maybe an Indian wedding. Indian friends - start getting married.

I'm sorry if any of you (ie Amr) are disappointed by my lack of witty and critical comments in this post. I will collect some for the future!
